Command & Conquer devs defeated
Yup, you read that right. Command & Conquer bites the dust. The official word is that the game was cancelled after player feedback and that Victory Studios is closing down.
"Your feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play. That is why, after much difficult deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game."
Fans have been telling EA this over and over from the moment EA announced that there would be nothing that would resemble a campaign. It is good that they finally listened, but does this mean that we can trust EA to go back to C&C's roots? Years of meddling with the C&C core mechanics have brought the franchise to its knees, and all because EA felt those mechanics were outdated. Meanwhile, Starcraft 2 thrives while hanging closely to those very same mechanics.
There is hope, though, as the same post states:
"We believe that Command & Conquer is a powerful franchise with huge potential and a great history, and we are determined to get the best game made as soon as possible. To that end, we have already begun looking at a number of alternatives to get the game back on track. We look forward to sharing more news about the franchise as it develops."
Seeing is believing, EA.
