Sid Meier reveals his new game Starships
Firaxis has revealed Sid Meier’s Starships, a turn-based game launching later this year. From the information released, it looks as though the game is related to 2014’s Beyond Earth, with you in control of the advanced Alpha Centaurian civilization who are now looking to leave the comfort of their new planet. You’ll control a fleet of ships journeying across outer space – perhaps to return to Earth, who have sent out a distress signal.
Sid Meier, who – unlike with Beyond Earth – seems to be directly involved in the project, talked about his new game. “When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story... What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth? My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration."
A 4X game in a similar style to Galactic Civilization or Master of Orion perhaps, or maybe a more story and mission related game like FTL? Regardless, Sid Meier’s Starships should be interesting. One thing to note however, is it's being developed by a “smaller” team, and Firaxis are also planning to bring it to the iPad as well as the PC, so this doesn’t look to be the next “big Civ”.
