Gameplay trailer for Mordheim: City of the Damned

Tactical turn-based strategy game Mordheim: City of the Damned has a brand new gameplay trailer, laying the ground for its release to Steam’s Early Access later this month. Based on Games Workshop’s cult-classic fantasy tabletop game, Rogue Factor’s digital adaptation looks to renew interest in a superb concept that has been abandoned in the physical realm for some time now. The original Mordheim was skirmish based, with persistent characters and permanent death; it also involved lots of gluing tiny bits onto small plastic models. It was very much a DIY experience.

The RPG persistence and detailed customisation involved in a game of Mordheim is something that a computer should deal well with. Mordheim: City of the Damned also has the advantage of looking a lot like the new XCOM, which is awesome. I'm a little sad that sawing off tiny plastic arms when you roll badly at the end of a skirmish won’t transfer over well to digital – but it's probably for the best.
