Shadowrun Returns dev working on dark, corridoor-shifting roguelite
The developer of Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Hairbrained Schemes, has recently announced that it is working on a new game: Necropolis. The action “roguelike” is set within a huge magical complex that acts like a trap for would-be heroes and shape-shifts and reconstructs itself like the dark, urban expressionism seen in films like Dark City or the postmodern Cube. Hairbrained Schemes has described its game as having a combat system based around player finesse, timing and animation. Judging by the art released, alongside drawing influence from staples of the action-adventure genre, The Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls, Necropolis also looks aesthetically similar to Capybara’s own unreleased roguelite, Below.
Hairbrained Schemes obviously has the talent and experience to create something fun and interesting with Necropolis, so I’ll be following its development closely. You can check out some of the great concept art and animations over on the website.
