World of Warcraft gets unlimited free trial to level 20
Blizzard announced today that they’re completely revamping their trial account system. Instead of limiting the amount of time you can spend playing, which used to consist of just a 14 day trial, trial accounts will allow you to play as much as you want all the way up to level 20 on as many characters as you can create. Similar to the Warhammer Online endless trial in concept the free trial will however have some restrictions to help prevent spammers and the like. No details on that so far but the ability to use certain chat channels, trade and other such limiting actions are no doubt in order.
Anyone who's still stuck in the dark ages of WoW without any of the expansions now has the Burning Crusade added to their account for free. If you're up for doing the endless trial there’s a nice surprise waiting for you if you decide to subscribe in the form of getting both the original game and the Burning Crusade for only $20.
To some this seems like a cry for help from Blizzard as their subscriber numbers have seen quite the dip lately, even in light of their new expansion 'Cataclysm' having been released last year. To others it's just a nice gesture from one of their favourite developers. Personally, I think it might just be that the WoW wagon has run out of steam, possibly with a free to play model being announced soon. Who knows?
