Could You Phrase That... (cont.)

Another way players can earn points is after each round during the highlights. Did you take the longest to answer a question correctly? Well if you did then you will be seeing some bonus points coming your way. Obviously playing better will benefit your score more but it is nice to see that the developers thought a closer game of Scene it? is more beneficial than just allowing the movie buffs in your crew of friends to slaughter you each time.

You Need to Find Some Friends

And therein lies the rub: while most XBOX 360 games feature some kind of online play component, Scene it? has none. Unless you have friends that are willing to come over and play with you, you will be out of luck. If ever a game screamed online play, it was this one and it is unfortunate to see it excluded.

That is not to say that all XBOX Live functionality is missing from the title, though. While nothing is available at this time, the ability to download new question packs adds a lot of replay value to this game. Considering Scene it? has a whole host of themed versions of the game, we could be seeing a ton of new content in the future.

All that potential might lead you to want to throw a Scene it? party and, indeed, the game has a special mode, Party Play, for those who are not looking to play competitively. The game will randomly select puzzle types for your party to play and it won't matter if you lose a player mid-game as the score is merely for show. Serious players will want to steer clear of this mode as the competitive edge is stripped away. However, it might prove a nice diversion to have on your TV while the party is raging.

Not Everything is Pretty

While everything may seem fantastic, not counting the lack of online play, there are a couple minor grievances I have with the game. Firstly, the graphical style of this game is garbage. The overall premise is that you are in a movie studio and are going from point to point answering these different questions. Before each set of questions, though, we are treated, or should I say tortured, by some terrible animated cut-scenes. They would have been better served just making a fake gameshow set and going with that. Secondly, there are some audio hitches that may hinder your question answering ability. A few audio clips were of low quality and hard to hear but there was not to many of these instances.

It is not groundbreaking, it is simply Scene it? and if you are fan of movies then it is a good buy. All in all, Scene it? for the XBOX 360 is well worth a purchase if you don't already own the board game. However, even if you do own it, the additions of the Big Button Pad, the game show like scoring system, and the promise of downloadable question packs make the game feel fresh and well worth a purchase on the console.
