Are you an Aerosmith wanna-be?

If Guitar Hero has excelled at one thing, it’s at making you feel like a rock star. No matter how silly you may think you will look with the plastic guitar in your hands, when the song starts you feel like Hendrix and Page reborn. How could you actually get any closer to feeling like a rocking guitar player without actually picking up an axe?

Well, you could always try becoming the band, and what better band is there besides Boston’s finest (though sadly, not Boston)?

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, due out on June 29th (June 27th in Europe) will be the first game in the Guitar Hero series to focus primarily on one band. Developed by Guitar Hero 3 developers Neversoft (Vicarious Visions and Budcat Creations will be handling the Wii and PS2 versions respectively), and published by Activision/ActiBlizzard/Vivendivision, whatever they are called these days.

What's it all about?

Don’t know what Guitar Hero is? Consider reading a magazine every once in a while. Guitar Hero is a rhythm game in which players must hit colored notes that travel vertically along the screen. Players can use a normal controller, but the preferred method is to use a guitar peripheral to play. Hitting streaks of notes gives the player a multiplier for points, and miss enough points and you fail.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will follow the career of Aerosmith from their beginnings at Nipmuc High School, The Orpheum, and their Super Bowl Half-Time show from 2001. All of these venues (and more) were designed to look like Aerosmith album covers come to life, such as “Nine Lives” and “Toys in the Attic”. Before every set a video will play of interviews from the band as they discuss that time in the band’s history.

All of Aerosmith, from singer Steven Tyler to guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitman participated in motion capture sessions to include their patented moves in the game. Like Slash and Tom Morrello before them, fully digitized versions of them will be included in the game.

It isn't all about Aerosmith

Of course, the first problem that comes to mind concerning a music game based on one band is “what if you don’t like the band”? While this might not be enough to convince you to buy the game, every set includes two songs that influenced or liked by Aerosmith. For those who loved the characters from previous games, fear not, as the original band will return to perform these two songs. As for the songs themselves, they include “Dream Police” by Cheap Trick, “Always on the Run” by Lenny Kravitz, and other announced songs from bands like The Clash, Joan Jett and The Black Crowes.
