The Franchise Continues

The Lord of the Rings is an extremely popular and successful story that has been read, told and experienced time and time again in many different versions. It has been transferred from book, to cartoon; to film and even to game, yet the magic that made this tale truly lovable is kept throughout every adaptation. To add to this it has even been converted for a variety of audiences in order to make it more accessible to a range of age groups. There have been versions aimed at younger audiences, such as the 1978 animated film or Surreal Studio’s 2002 video game version of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. At the other end of the spectrum there is the more action packed and serious film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson, as well as EA’s video games; The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Sagas of Middle Earth

All of the video game versions of the Lord of the Rings franchise have not only recreated iconic moments or sagas from Middle Earth, but have also expanded them and invented new characters, events and battles, seen in such games as EA’s The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth, in which the player not only takes part in famous battles from the film, but also ones mentioned in the books. Other games even extended so far as to allow players to create their own story in Middle Earth, such as EA’s turn-based RPG The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age or Codemasters massive multiplayer online RPG, Shadows of Angmar. With the diversity in stories, gameplay, characters, options and experiences, EA and Codemasters have offered players a wide and colorful selection of opportunities to experience the beloved tale by Tolkien.

If you are a Lord of the Rings fan then you will have your favorite characters and love every moment you get to spend with them, be it through reading the books, watching the films or playing the games. However, the majority of games based in Middle Earth focus on the fellowship (EA’s The Two Towers) or a specific army (Battle for Middle Earth) rather than certain individuals, which means that you get scarce time to actually portray your beloved hero. This might be about to change though with the release of The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest, where you will solely follow the ranger’s life and his journey through the Lord of the Rings story arc.

Aragorn’s Quest

The story is set after the events of what is known in Middle Earth as The War of the Ring (for those who don’t know, this is basically the story of the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy). Aragorn, the new king of Gondor, is on his way to visit Hobbiton and all the wee Hobbits are preparing a great big party for him. Samwise Gamgee, Frodo’s old pal, is now the mayor of the town and Aragorn is coming to honor him for all the great work he did during the war. While awaiting the arrival of the legendary king of Gondor, the children of Hobbiton are eager to hear all about the mighty Aragorn.
