Levels from Turtle lore

The game is promised to have a variety of fighting stages and each stage will come with a different artistic style. Each stage will be borrowed from different stories of the turtles, such as a Manhattan stage which will have you fighting on the rooftops seen in the recent animated film.

GameArts fighting games are known for having stages brimming with personality from the characters, and lots of background activity going on in the stage, and Smash-Up seems to be in strong supply of it. There is lots of ongoing banter between each character as you are fighting and there are a lot of environmental hazards coming at you, such as a stage in the jungle with a crocodile diving at the players.

One of the exciting things of the games’ development is that the development team have been provided access to the original comics and shows of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and so we will be expecting lots of references to the comics and the old show. The stages will have lots of references that fans will instantly recognize.

Confirmed characters

The characters that have been officially announced for the game are all very familiar, such as all four of the turtles themselves. A close ally of the turtles called April O’ Neil has been confirmed as well. The classic villains the characters have faced such as Rocksteady and Shredder are joining the fight too. And, of course, the sensei of the characters, Master Splinter, is available in the roster as well.

There will be some sneaky guest appearances from other Ubisoft characters such as the rabbids, from the raving rabbids games, disguised as other characters from the Ninja Turtles.

Whilst the confirmed characters for the moment are perfectly fine, I wouldn’t mind seeing some other characters such as Krang from the old days of the franchise. But it is early days still and I am genuinely looking forward to whoever pops up in the list, and what weapon styles they will have.

A new Ninja Turtles game with genuine potential

As a devoted fan of the characters myself, this is one of the few Ninja Turtles games that has immediately made me go ‘this game has potential’. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up is really looking like a very fun brawler, and is something I am definitely going to play.
