Wiimote: the ultimate weapon (cont.)
Fatalities are somewhat more involved than the special attacks with both the Wiimote and nunchuck playing an important role in ripping off arms, pulling out internal organs and decapitating opponents. To twist an opponents head right off players push forward with the nunchuck and pull back with the Wiimote.
One feature making a return to Armageddon is midair combat which hasn?t been seen in a Mortal Kombat title for years. The game allows players to launch and attack opponents in mid-air. It?s also possible to juggle the enemy, an effective way to change the momentum of a battle.
Most characters in the game have 2 fighting styles as opposed from 3 in the previous games. Basically, a fighting style allows each character to fight using different martial arts style or with a weapon in hand.
Kreativity options
Fans of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon can use the included Kreate-A-Fighter mode to build their own kombatants from scratch. Players have a wide selection of items to personalize their fighters however a large range of clothing items and accessories need to be unlocked before they can be accessed.
Players are able to assign a fighting style to their character which allows them to choose the way they fight, the weapons they utilize and the special moves they can pull off. Gamers may also write a custom ending for their character that will be displayed after defeating the Kombat mode.
The other creative mode, Kreate-A-Fatality, gives gamers the opportunity to create their own string of fatalities.
The Krypt mode returns wherein players can view all the items that they?ve unlocked throughout Konquest and other modes. The Krypt is smaller than in previous games however there is a lot of interesting content to be unlocked such as bloopers, movies and other content related to the development of the game.
MK stands for Mortal Kombat, not Mario Kart. Right?
An interesting time-waster has been included in Armageddon. The mini-game, known as Motor Kombat is a kart-racer in which players can select from 10 highly-deformed favourites. The game includes five tracks for gamers to race through.
The Wii version of Motor Kombat benefits from giving players the opportunity to use the Wiimote to race. Players hold the controller ExciteTruck style, with the Wiimote horizontal and the buttons facing up. Mortal Kombat definitely looks like an interesting mode, the option of using the Wiimote making it all the sweeter.
Fight!
Armageddon is certainly looking to be an above average fighting addition for the Nintendo Wii. Armageddon is the first Mortal Kombat game to grace the system, and while it is a port of the PS2/Xbox version, the game is different enough for people to give a second shot. The graphics will not be upgraded. However, the controls are totally unique and are guaranteed to change the entire experience.
This game is recommended for Mortal Kombat and fighting fans alike. And hey, even if you?re not a fan of the genre, it won?t hurt to give the game a shot. Who knows? The innovative motion-based controls may be all that is needed for you to love the game. The Wii version of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon will be released in May of 2007.
