Lurking surprises

"Every day is a new day" is how the saying goes, but My Life as a King shuns conventional wisdom and does things a little differently. What is supposed to be a "new day" is spent talking to the exact same people, running similar errands, and erecting building after building. Sounds repetitive? It is, sadly.

Despite this, I was still looking forward to each new day with high anticipation. The reason behind this is because you never know what might happen. You see, one day you might unravel the mysteries behind the whereabouts of your father, King Epitav, and another you may be able to build a new building. Other surprises lay lurking around the corner of each new day, always keeping you eager to see what will await next.

Replay

After completing the main game, there is still plenty to do. For example, if you never had the opportunity to purchase downloadable content online using Wii Points, you can do it now. Honestly, it is better to download extra content after completing the game because some downloadable content packages contain high level dungeons. After completing the game, your adventurers will likely be strong enough to take on the vicious monsters of these new dungeons.

Though people have complained about the high cost of My Life as a King, I honestly think that the game is worth every penny. For 1500 Wii Points, you get a twelve to fifteen hour adventure with a very high replay value; that is, if you like the genre. If you don't like simulations, you may find the game a little too repetitive.

Graphically, My Life as a King excels. The game looks better than a lot of other Wii titles, including full priced ones that you buy in the shops. Unfortunately the character animations are lagging behind somewhat. Once you engage in a conversation, the characters scarcely move. A bit unnerving is that they occasionally smile when something negative is being said. The audio on the other hand, is very well done. It would have served the game well if there had been a bit more variety though. By day 25, you will be tired of hearing the same piece of music over, and over again.

Best WiiWare launch title

My Life as a King is one of the best downloadable titles available and it definitely ranks among the most addicting I have ever played. After clearing the main storyline, you can go back and download extra content online using your Wii Points. Some of the downloadable content is a little expensive but you can always download the more affordable content instead. In my opinion, My Life as a King is the best WiiWare launch title and a highly entertaining simulation with a couple of very interesting twists.
