Hooked Gamers provides coverage on games for Next-Gen (or should we call them Current-Gen by now?) console games and PC games. Like so many online Game Magazines, we try to be objective and unbiased.
Having said that, we do feel that being totally unbiased is just not possible. A game that you have been looking forward to for months and has been hyped up by its publisher to be the gods' gift to gamers, is likely to be judged harsher when the reviewer finds it a wholly disappointing experience. On the other hand, fanboyism is hard to fight - we all have designers, developers and publishers that we dig. Taking off your coloured glasses before playing their latest game is not an easy thing to do.

When Firaxis announced Sid Meier's Pirates! back in May of 2003, work started on a fansite for what was bound to be a fantastic remake of the original classic. Cutlass Isle was born on the 31st of August of that same year but didn't pick up speed until the two weeks before the game was released. Then it exploded. Tens of thousands of visitors found their way to the site and many stayed to form a great community that is still active today.
The success of the site left us yearning for more. A small group of enthusiastic admins and moderators banded together with plans to form a network of fansites, spearheaded by a 'hub' that would bind the sites together. You are visiting this hub today. In the months after the launch of Hooked Gamers in March of 2005, we launched Hooked on Age of Pirates and Hooked on Stronghold. The first is still up but the game never gathered much support from Western gamers, the second didn't live up to our expectations and is no longer maintained. You can't win them all, right?
Towards the end of 2005, Hooked Gamers became the focus of our activities. We haven't closed the door for fansites completely (Hooked on Spore is now one of the top 3 Spore communities on the Net) but we did have a change of plan: our current aim is to provide in-depth coverage of games on all platforms, making Hooked Gamers a daily stop for gamers who would like to stay informed of what to buy and what to avoid.
