EA To Sue South Park Creators
Last night was the worldwide launch of South Park Season 14 and the opening episode was about the events of Tiger Woods' sex scandal, titled "Sexual Healing". However, it didn't really focus around Tiger Woods himself and was more to do with the upcoming EA game,
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. I personally liked the episode but apparently the folks at EA weren't as pleased.
This episode of South Park showed the latest
Tiger Woods game to involve more than just golf this time. Instead it involved Tiger and his wife engaging in physical combat and at one point it turns into a beat em' up like
Street Fighter and
Tekken. It's simply a parody but EA Sports have decided that it infringes copyright and are planning to sue.
Daily Informer was told by an EA source that “soon after the airing of the episode the top beef were called in, even Peter Moore was informed of the situation”, their source went on to say, “before the episode aired the marketing folks were already worried, but now they have a lot more to worry about”. Finally he mentioned that, "there are definitely a few copyright infringements in there that I’m sure will be dealt with accordingly".
If this source is true EA Sports will be taking action against the South Park creators: Trey Parker and Matt Stone. However, fans of South Park will know they have been very controversial in the past and this had led to many lawsuits against them. They are practically immune to this kind of thing though; they never seem to lose and I doubt EA will be victorious if they do take action. Either way, check back for any updates on the matter.
