My Thoughts of Halo 3: ODST
Well, it's now September 23, which means that Halo: ODST has been in stores for more than 24 hours. According to VGCHARTZ.com, ODST has sold more than 2 million copies of the game, despite the fact that there was some negative comments about the game. Gamers were concerned about why they were paying full price on what seems like an expansion of the last game more than a full game in itself.
Like a true nerd, I stood in line alongside friends at a midnight release anxiously waiting to get a copy of the game, and after playing for a day I've come up with some conclusions about Halo 3: ODST
Before I go into talking about the actual game though, let me say this: The game comes with 2 discs, one for the campaign, and one strictly for multiplayer.
Multiplayer:
THERE'S NOTHING DIFFERENT ABOUT THE MULTIPLAYER. I was completely shocked to find that after buying the game, nothing was any different in multiplayer. There are 3 new maps, and a new playlist (Team Throwback) but that's it. 3 maps? People live and die by the fact that Halo 3 could have the best multiplayer action in any game, and you drop a new game that only has 3 new maps? Epic Fail Bungie.
Campaign:
I'm really looking forward to completing the campaign, partly because I wanna get all the achievements, and partly because I really feel the need to not play multiplayer for a bit and do some solo gaming.
I'm not going to say anything about the campaign that could potentially spoil anything for anyone, but I will say that not having the radar was a big step-up for me, considering that I used the radar like it was the only thing I could see in Halo 3. The new technology is a HUD on your helmet that detects enemies and gives them a red aura around their bodies. Something I'm just gonna have to get used to I guess.
Firefight Mode:
This is by far my favorite part of the game, and the reason I will be playing a lot more ODST in the future. Nothing is better than grabbing a couple friends and linking up for some covenant carnage. They literally drop you down in a map (of your choice), and you just have to survive wave after wave of the covenant. It can get really challenging when certain abilities are active, such as Catch (enemies love to throw nades), or Black Eye (melee recharges stamina).
I know a few people will read this and say, "Hey, I play Gears of War/Call Of Duty, and this sounds exactly like Horde/Nazi Zombies. Well in truth, it is those games. But considering that:
1) The last game I bought before ODST was Halo 3 and
2) I couldn't give a rat's ass about Call Of A Lucky Headshot/Gears of Chest-High Walls
this game provides a new feature that I've never played before and it's really fun.
They've also taken the medal system from multiplayer and incorporated it into Firefight, with some changes in how many kills are needed for a Frenzy (20)/Riot(30)/etc.
There you have it. My thoughts on Halo 3:ODST. I definitely approve of this game, and can't wait to finish writing this blog so I can play some more Firefight.
