EverQuest II Expansion Announced
Back in the day EverQuest ruled the MMORPG market, it was simply the bee's knee's. Since 2004 however World of Warcraft has stolen those knee's, glued them on to itself and ran away with this title to dizzying new heights and popularity. EverQuest 2 was supposed to take over the reigns however, released at the same time as that Blizzard game, it failed to really inspire its audiences.
The problem being that it split fans in numerous ways. For some it wasn't near enough to the original EverQuest, for others it wasn't different enough. With a sequel your always going to court criticism but for a sequel in this genre, your pretty much dead in the water if you don't get it right.
Now EverQuest 2 is actually a fun albeit flawed game, over the last five years of development Sony have been quietly at work, changing and reforming EverQuest 2, now it looks like something half its predecessor and half its own game, this actually a great balance to strike, it entices new and old players alike.
Another bold move into restoring original game content comes in the form of Sentinel's Fate. This expansion brings the island of Odyus back into the Norrath fold -to many veteran EQ fans this will be cue to get aroused- Sony are offering more content than ever before, taking a little more time to develop this expansion. To say the least it looks promising.
New updates are abound too until the release date of February 2010. EverQuest will see an achievement system, an auto-mentoring system, basically it allows older players to go back through content they out grew so they can get the rewards. Finally the biggest update comes in the form of Halas. This will be a new starting city for those of Good allignment. All of this sounds very exciting.
So for those unknowing in the ways of EverQuest 2, February 2010 may be the time to finally check it out, Sony look to offer the complete package of the game. For myself personally, with a relaunch and some publicity EQ2 could get back up their in terms of popularity, a PS3 version would also be a great idea.
