WoW has not peaked, says Blizzard VP

WoW has not peaked, says Blizzard VP
In a recent interview with VG247, Blizzard Product Development Executive VP Frank Pearce insists that the company's massive online role-playing game will grow beyond the 11.5 million subscribers it reached in 2008.

"Whenever we launch an expansion we usually see some win-back from players who have set WoW aside temporarily," he said. "Hopefully we will get some people back from Cataclysm as well. I don’t think 11.5 million is a peak, necessarily, but there are certain things that we need to do and need to do well in order to see it go further."

Pearce also believes that the launch of Wrath of the Lich King in China will help the game's subscriber base grow.

No release date has been set for Cataclysm but, according to IndustryGamers, it's speculated to arrive later this year.

Star Wars: The Old Republic's advanced class system revealed

Star Wars: The Old Republic's advanced class system revealed
Star Wars: The Old Republic's official website has been updated with new info about the game's advanced classes system.

According to the site, each of The Old Republic's four classes will have two specialized advanced classes to choose from, although what they will be is still unknown at this time.

Each advanced class will grant access to role-defining abilities, and some may even grant new weapon and armor types. Additionally, the advanced classes will also have three sets of skills available to further customize your character - two sets unique to the class and one general set available to both advanced classes.

The advanced class system sounds similar to both World of Warcraft's and Age of Conan's, and will hopefully provide some much-needed depth to character creation.

Details on Guild Wars 2 combat and Elementalist profession

Details on Guild Wars 2 combat and Elementalist profession
ArenaNet today released specifics on what players can expect from combat in Guild Wars 2, as well as details on the Elementalist profession.

Here are some of the features of Guild Wars 2's combat mechanics:

  • Visual and dynamic combat - Maneuver around an opponent to strike for maximum damage or send them flying through the air. Create giant crushing stone hands, turn into a massive tornado, or summon a flock of vicious birds of prey to swarm your enemies.

  • Cross-profession combos - Combine attacks from different professions for extra damage, like shooting arrows through a flaming wall to create a barrage of fiery projectiles, or sending pets through a cloud of poison so they spread the toxin among the enemy.

Winterbottom now on Steam

Winterbottom now on Steam
2K Play announced today that critically acclaimed puzzler The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is now available for the PC on Steam.

Set in the silent film world made famous by the Keystone Cops, theater organs and pie-in-the-face slapstick, Winterbottom features time-bending game play similar to Braid and a soundtrack that can only be described as "Elfman-esque."

Created by The Odd Gentlemen as a student thesis project, Winterbottom was originally published as an Xbox LIVE Arcade game. The PC version, developed by 2K China, features all-new expanded leaderboard options, new unlockable achievements, five additional puzzles and Steam Cloud, which allows players to take the game with them on the road by accessing saved games from the Steam network.

Rumor: A BioShock MMO?

Rumor: A BioShock MMO?
According to Destructoid, a "mysterious source" claims that 2K is possibly working on a MMO set in the BioShock universe.

There's nothing to back the claim up, other than the fact that 2K has expressed interest in the MMO genre, and is nothing but wild speculation at this point. So, take it with a giant grain of salt.

The thought of an online game set in Rapture is interesting, however, as the underwater political hotbed and its hordes of superpower wielding splicers would probably translate well into a MMO. But it would probably help destroy what made Rapture such an interesting setting in the first place - its sense of mystery.

What do you think about the idea of a BioShock MMO?
