Analyst: The Old Republic could see over 2 million subscribers

Analyst: The Old Republic could see over 2 million subscribers
After a meeting with EA, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia says that the company has high hopes for BioWare's upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic and believes it can reach two million subscribers.

Without a doubt, SWTOR is one of the most anticipated titles of 2011, and EA has stated that the game is its largest development project ever. According to Bhatia, at least one million subscribers will be needed for EA to break even.

One million subscribers is certainly possible, especially with a high-profile developer like BioWare working on a wildly popular franchise like Star Wars. But, as recent MMORPGs Age of Conan and Warhammer Online can attest to, it's a lot easier to get one million subscribers than it is to keep them.

Bethesda and inXile to publish Hunted: The Demon's Forge

Bethesda and inXile to publish Hunted: The Demon's Forge
If you're the type of gamer who loves a good dungeon crawl, you're in luck. Bethesda announced on Monday that it is publishing Hunted: The Demon's Forge, a third-person co-op fantasy game being developed by inXile.

Set in a dark fantasy world, Hunted lets you and a friend team up to battle your way through waves of enemies as either ranged expert E'lara or master swordsman Caddoc. Using a variety of weapons, spells and cover tactics, players will explore dungeons, overgrown ruins, and downtrodden towns as they investigate the disappearance of townsfolk from across the land.

Dragon Age 2 in February 2011?

Dragon Age 2 in February 2011?
It looks like EA might be dropping a not-so-subtle hint about the release date of the next Dragon Age game.

A card in the packaging of the Dragon Age: Awakening expansion contains the hint - a bloody dragon logo with the date 2-01-2011 (check it out).

While there's no official word from EA yet, it's safe to say that something is coming on Feb. 1st that Dragon Age fans will want to clear their calendars for.

Lady Gaga coming to Rock Band as DLC next week

Four songs from eccentric pop star Lady Gaga are coming to the Rock Band Store next week.

The songs can be purchased individually for 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) or 200 Wii Points. They will also be available as a DLC pack on the Xbox 360 for 560 Microsoft Points ($7).

The four songs are:

  • "Bad Romance"

  • "Just Dance"

  • "Monster"

  • "Poker Face"

As a bonus, gamers will also be able to purchase Eric Cartman's rendition of "Poker Face" from the SouthPark episode "Whale Whores." Which, in my opinion, is totally worth the $1.99. Don't believe me? Watch the video!

Ubisoft's DRM failure

Ubisoft's DRM failure
UPDATE: After suffering a second attack, Ubisoft's servers are up again, according to a tweet they made in the wee hours last night that says, "Login servers were partially reestablished at 10pm CET and fully restored at 1am CET. The attack affected only those trying to login."

Ubisoft's new, controversial DRM system has already had it's first setback. According to a massive post on Ubisoft's European forums, some PC owners were unable to play Assassin's Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5 this weekend because of an attack on the company's authentication servers that left them inaccessible for almost seven hours.

Xbox LIVE updates Code of Conduct, allows users to express race, sexual orientation

Xbox LIVE updates Code of Conduct, allows users to express race, sexual orientation
In an open letter to the Xbox LIVE community, General Manager Marc Whitten announced today a change in the online platform's Code of Conduct that will allow players to express their race, nationality, religion and sexual orientation in Gamertags and profiles.

"Under our previous policy," Whitten explains, "some of these expressions of self identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs. However, we have since heard feedback from our customers that while the spirit of this approach was genuine, it inadvertently excluded a part of our Xbox LIVE community."
