BioWare introduces The Cerberus Network
BioWare and EA are firing another salvo in the war against
used video game sales by introducing The Cerberus Network, an in-game portal for Mass Effect 2 that will be free to players who purchase a new copy of the game.
Unlocked through a single-use code that's included in the retail and digital versions, The Cerberus Network will allow users to download content and receive daily messages and news on upcoming ME2 releases for no extra charge.
"The Cerberus Network augments and extends the rich universe of Mass Effect 2,” said BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka, Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA. “We’re thrilled to be able to reward loyal BioWare and Mass Effect fans with ongoing, high quality content and provide a direct channel for our players to dive deeper into the intriguing lore of Mass Effect."
Players who buy Mass Effect 2 used can still unlock The Cerberus Network by purchasing a single-use activation code in-game.
ME2's first DLC will be available through The Cerberus Network on launch day, January 26th, and includes new missions, new items, and a new squad member: a deadly gun-for-hire named Zaeed.
Post-launch, BioWare plans to release another DLC pack that introduces a new vehicle called the Hammerhead. It will also include Cerberus Assault Armor, which boost shields, health and heavy weapon ammo, and the M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun.
