Details on Mass Effect 2's save game import features
A recent forum post by Bioware Community Coordinator Chris Priestly gives us new details on Mass Effect 2's save game import features.

Upon starting a new game from the main menu, Priestly says, players can choose to import a character from the first Mass Effect. Up to 11 save games can be imported. Certain decisions made in the first game - who you saved (or didn't save), how you handled your "biggest fan" - will carry over, although the full list of decisions that will impact your playthrough of ME2 is unknown.

Besides affecting the plot, importing a saved game will also give statistical bonuses to your character in ME2. The higher the level of your imported character, the greater the bonus you'll receive. The bonuses may include a monetary boost or additional resources for the Normandy's Tech Lab.

As an additional perk, if you finished the first Mass Effect as a Paragon or Renegade, part of that alignment will carry over to the new game, providing easier access to certain dialogue options.
