From Games to Screen
There have been plenty of films that have been adapted from video games, Super Mario Bros, Street Fight, Resident Evil, Hitman, Doom and Max Payne are just a few to mention. Some have been good while others have been complete flops. The newest instalment to the screen that should be arriving in May 2010 is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Starring Jake Gyllenhall as the Prince, Gemma Arterton as his heroine and Ben Kingsley as the nemesis.
The Prince of Persia series was new and innovative; it had several successful sequels and produced much merchandise. The question is however, will the film be as successful as the game franchise or will it fall into the pile of crap adaptations?
It depends on the general public’s reaction. It looks to be shaping up to be an amazing film, with a great story and brilliant CGI. Director Mike Newell has even stated it will be the best video game film ever. Sounds great, but will the fans love it? One would think that you would aim to please the gaming community who first played and fell in love with the series. However, the film industry is a business and tries to make films like this universal in order to attract a wider audience.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time may look to be a hit with the general public, but will it please the fans? Guess we’ll have to find out in May.
