Band Hero Demo is Live

Band Hero Demo is Live
A demo for Band Hero is now live on the XBOX Live Marketplace. Featuring the songs "Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven, "Picture to Burn" by Taylor Swift and "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves the demo offers gamers an early look into Activision's upcoming pop-centric, family friendly music title. The demo offers up Party Play, which is exactly the same as it is in Guitar Hero 5, as well as the all-new Sing-Along mode, which essentially morphs the game into a session of Karaoke.

The demo is currently only available to XBOX Live Gold members but should expand to silver members in the next week or so.

Queen: Rock Band?

Queen: Rock Band?
It seems the success of The Beatles: Rock Band has brought on the interest of a number of other high profile music acts including U2 and Queen. Queen guitarist Brian May has stated that his guys are interested in doing something of the sorts and that it may be happening in the near future.

We recently announced that Queen would be contributing a 10 pack of songs to the Rock Band Store and they have contributed songs to the Guitar Hero franchise in the past so the band collaborating with either Activision or Harmonix on a focused Queen game is certainly not out of the question. The real question though is there enough demand for a Queen or U2 focused game to make it a viable project?

U2: Rock Band?

U2: Rock Band?
After seeing the mainstream buzz, critical success, and lifelike virtual recreation of The Beatles in The Beatles: Rock Band it seems the superstar rock band U2 wants in on a piece of the action. In an interview with USA Today bassist Adam Clayton expresses his thoughts that the band may be interested in bringing their music and likenesses to the virtual stage.

"That could change. I love the idea that that's where people are getting music, and we'd love to be in that world. We'll figure something out. What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we're interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation. We didn't want to be caricatured."

Based on Clayton's qoute though it seems that U2 would probably want something along the lines of The Beatles: Rock Band. The band is arguably the biggest act running so Harmonix (or Activision) working with them is only an eventuality held up by the band itself. However in an industry already oversaturated with rhythym games and the genre on a noticeable decline year over year, will an audience be there to support a U2 branded game?

Rock Band Snags Backspacer

Rock Band Snags Backspacer
According to The OFFICIAL Harmonix Rock Band Community Zine #22, Pearl Jam will be releasing their entire new album, "Backspacer", to the Rock Band store this coming Tuesday (22 September 2009). "Backspacer" will consist of 11 tracks including Pearl Jam's newest hit single, "The Fixer". "Backspacer" marks the second full album by Peral Jam offered as downloadable content in the Rock Band store. The community zine does not mention systems but based on previous releases, expect "Backspacer" to appear on the XBOX 360 and PS3 first with it following shortly thereafter on the Wii.

RockBand.com also has an interview with guitarist, Mike McCready, that gives a little sneak peak at what fans can expect out of the new album.

Bobby Kotick At It Again

The crazy outspoken CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotick, is at it again. This time while presenting at a technology conference in San Francisco, Kotick decided to let slip some of his big plans for the behemoth music franchise, Guitar Hero. Basically he expects, Guitar Hero and other Activision properties, to bypass the console space entirely, effectively un-tethering them from the likes of Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony.

It seems to me like Activision's success in recent years has gone directly to the head of Mr. Kotick and he is now saying his company is big enough to go it alone. Of course if games like Tony Hawk's Ride, DJ Hero and Call of Duty's Headlamp Edition sell as well as Kotick thinks they will this holiday season, it will be hard to question his crazy business plans.

Guitar Hero 5 Heading Back to the Future

Guitar Hero 5 Heading Back to the Future
Ok, so it's not getting Huey Lewis' "Power of Love" and Marty McFly isn't actually going to be a playable in the game but honestly this is the next best possible news for the Guitar Hero franchise other than those two things happening. 1UP is reporting that Guitar Hero 5 will get backward compatibility for select tracks from Guitar Hero: World Tour and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits as well as the majority of World Tour DLC. The compatibility will be for Guitar Hero 5 on the PS3, Wii and XBOX 360.

It seems the option will handle much like the way Harmonix dealt with backward compatibility for Rock Band to Rock Band 2, as there will be a small fee attached. Of course having recently heard Activision CEO Bobby Kotick's remarks on how he would like to raise prices higher, who knows how small the small fee will actually be but at the very least it is a move in the right direction.

Gorillaz heading to Rock Band

Gorillaz heading to Rock Band
Gorillaz, the virtual band fronted by Blur's Damon Albarn's animated persona "2D", makes its way to the ever growing Rock Band store this coming week with a three pack of songs. Included in the Gorillaz pack will be the songs "Clint Eastwood", "Feel Good Inc." and "Re-Hash". The inclusion of the Gorillaz is another step in developer Harmonix's promise to bring more than just rock music to the platform as the band's music is genre bending under any examination. Of course if you still need your rock fix, have no fear as some additional classic rock tracks will be accompanying the Gorillaz to the Rock Band store front including the likes of Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane.

The tracks will be available for purchase on the XBOX 360 Marketplace and Playstation Network on August 11th and 13th respectively. A release date for these songs on Wii is yet to be revealed, although they will probably follow a week or two afterward.
