Nielsen: Over 50% Of US Households Have A Video Game Console
According to some recent statistics from Nielsen Games over 50% of US households have at least one video game console.
The study shows that 57% of US houses have a seventh generation video game console. 65% of that number keep the console in the living room, however that figure rises to 75% when counting the Wii. 13% of that 57% keep their video game console in their bedrooms. It should be noted that the fact that this current generation of consoles are more geared towards entertainment is the reason why a large number of them are kept in the main viewing area of the house (living room).
The Nielsen report also stated that time spent gaming in households climbed 7% but mobile and tablets have affected gaming as the Wii saw a 22% drop. The same Nielsen report claims that 50% of children ages between 7 and 12 own a Nintendo DS. The report also states that 39% of households have an iOS device. 66% of households with children who own a handheld gaming device also an iOS device.
