From The Jaws Of Death, The 3DS Will Rise
Breathing a sigh of relief for what's expected to be a very strong holiday outing for Nintendo, analysts from around the gaming industry are forecasting that the 3DS is making it's way to what were lofty expectations.
Wedbush Morgan's rock star analyst Michael Pachter, speaking with
Eurogamer, states;
“It’s definitely turned the corner."
With EEDAR's Jesse Divinich stating;
“With the strong rebound in 3DS sales, I think Nintendo is clear of the woods for now."
Pachter cites a very week launch line-up and high price for some of the reasons why the 3DS is just now settling into its groove.
“I was surprised that it sold so few at the $249 price point, and its sales to date are exactly what I originally forecasted at that price,” he added.
However, Divinich and Screen Digest's Piers Harding-Rolls claim that a great holiday period isn't enough to keep the 3DS on top.
“Going forward, however, we will closely be paying attention to software attach rates. Selling hardware is great, but it is only the first step. The health of any hardware is directly correlated to the amount of software consumers buy,” Divnich said.
“2012 will be crucial for the platform, as its sales momentum will decide how third-party investment in content development will be prioritised,” Harding-Rolls added.
“We expect the 3DS to continue selling, but Nintendo faces an increasingly competitive landscape and the hurdle of convincing third-parties to invest in the platform.”
Through the holiday the Nintendo 3DS passed the four million units sold mark.
