Microsoft Gets Patent Allowing You To Record Gaming Sessions To The 360 HDD

Microsoft recently received a patent for a gaming console DVR, which would effectively allow you to record television gaming sessions to the Xbox 360's HDD.

Now it should be noted that this patent was filed for back in 2007 (yes, it really does take that long for a patent to be approved) mainly because the 360 was just not able to stream that much video content from the console. Here at the start of 2012 the streaming options for the Xbox 360 are growing by leaps and bounds with the most popular being Netflix, Hulu Plus, and YouTube. Still, the ability to digitally record television from the console onto the console's hard disk drive would be revolutionary and it's probably going to be something Microsoft's next console features.

It should also be noted that DVR technology is growing older by the day and that every major cable/satellite provider offers a DVR set-top box. With that being said, including DVR capabilities into say the Xbox LIVE Gold subscription on a future console would actually be a pretty good idea.
