DC Universe Online Going Free To Play Next Month
Sony Online Entertainment have announced that their once immensely popular MMORPG DC Universe Online, will be going free-to-play next month.
The game will be going free-to-play in October for both the PlayStation 3 and PC versions.
Lorin Jameson, Sony Online Entertainment's procuder, stated speaking to
IGN;
“In terms of ‘Is it a result in a drop in subs’ – absolutely not,” said Jameson.
“This is the right business model. If I can be honest, the game ended up costing a lot more than we thought it would, and this was our preferred business model from day one.”
If you sign up in the free-to-play section of the game you will still receive access to Gotham and Metropolis, as well as raids and alerts. You will also receive purchasable downloadable content, additional character slots, and powers.
If you were a paying subscriber before the game goes free-to-play and you have spent more than $5 in the game you will receive more character slots than free players, more inventory slots, and bigger cash limits.
If you choose to become a "Legendary" member you will receive all the benefits from the two groups above and then some. Like more than 15 character slots, 80 inventory slots, and the ability to form leagues with no size limitations.
If you so choose to become a Legendary member you'll be paying $15 a month.
