Brazilian Court Seeks Worldwide Ban Of GTA Episodes From Liberty City
A Brazilian court has apparently obtained a worldwide injunction to halt sales of Grant Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City.
According to
Kotaku, the injunction is over improper use of one of the songs in The Ballad Of Gay Tony, which is one of the episodes in The Episodes From Liberty City.
The song, "Conga Kid" by Daniel Haaksman, is said to have an unauthorized sample of Bota o Dedinho pro Alto, composed by Hamilton Lourenço da Silva. Silva is the father of MC Miltinho who appears on the track "Conga Kid".
Did you catch all of that? Yea, me neither, but apparently it's a pretty big deal down there in Brazil.
Rockstar has presented documents to the court showing that the song was authorized for use in The Ballad of Gay Tony. Apparently the authorized signatures on the documents were not the same signatures of those who originated the lawsuit.
According to the court order, the hard copy of Episodes From Liberty City as well as digital releases of the Episodes on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as well as the PC should be halted immediately. Rockstar and their distributor, Synegex, have been told that further sale of the game will result in a fine of R$5,000 ($3,000-£1,885) each day the game continues to be made available for retail purchase.
We'll await word from Rockstar US on this before passing any further info on.
