Treyarch Unveils Call Of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer
During a recent press event, Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch debuted the game's multiplayer aspect.
First things first, Treyarch is introducing a new game mode called "Combat Training" which allows you to master your trigger pulling and aiming skills on bots instead of other players. It will have a progression system just like any other Call of Duty game mode.
You will also find that "care packages" are now filled with better stuff this time around. New weapons in the package include a new grenade launcher and a new minigun.
The game introduces a new currency system for you to purchase upgrades and what not, called "COD Points". You earn them as you progress through the multiplayer levels and you can spend them on specialized challenges or if you're feeling lucky, you can spend the points on Wager Matches. There is a video of Wager Matches at the bottom for all you confused ones out there.
Four new game modes will be making an appearance; "Sticks and Stones" and "Gun Game" are the only two to be revealed thus far. These modes will be separate from normal online progression. Sticks and Stones mode sees all players with knives and crossbows - no real guns. Gun Game will allow players to use more powerful weapons the higher their kills count reaches. Really? Unfair, say you? Tough. Deal with it.
Gun customization was one of the last features to be revealed for the game, allowing you to customize your kill machine down to the very serial number. Ok, well maybe not THAT realistic. Real enough though. You will be able to mask your gun with Clan Tags, decals, and other means of decoration...all of which can be stripped and redone if you're not happy with your current design.
Black Ops is shaping up to be Treyarch's masterpiece, or so I've been told. I'll make that final conclusion after it launches in November. Everyone was tauting World At War as Treyarch's "9th Symphony" but it was more of a "Thong Song". Horrible analogy, I know.
Call of Duty: Black Ops is bound to get the reveal treatment over the next month with PAX this weekend and TGS in two weeks.
The game is out in November for the PS3, 360, and PC.
