Star Wars: The Old Republic Space Combat Modeled After Tunnel Shooters
BioWare, according to
this source, recently told PC Gamer that space combat in the upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, was modeled after "tunnel shooters" rather than free form flying.
According to BioWare, the space combat in the game was “designed to create highly cinematic battle sequences for players to experience." Players will be able to engage in space combat situations by venturing into combat "hotspots" which can be unlocked as you progress throughout the game.
BioWare has said that for now these space battles will be solo-only but hopes to release a post-launch patch that will make them PvP as well as team combat. Spaceship movement will be limited to up, down, left, and right. There will be no free venture flying. You will however be able to earn achievements, get into collisions, customize your ship, get further quest objectives, and change your difficulty level while in space travel.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is due out next year only for the PC.
