No Medal Of Honour For PS3 Hackers
The recent PS3 jailbreak has enabled players to backup games to a hard-drive. Sony, obviously not happy with this development, have been pressing to combat the situation with new firmware. The release of EA’s Medal of Honour Sony heralded the arrival of the latest firmware update on the disk.
Have they got the right idea?
Sony released firmware update 3.42 which introduced new security features and a loss of support for unidentified USB devices to help stop people from making backups. Sony has also come up with a new plan to combat the problem and to try and stop this permanently. The new plan involves their first retail game since the new update to automatically ask players to update their PS3s to firmware 3.42 before they are able to install and play the game. With quite a few big titles due out any moment now, chances are good most PS3s will have the new firmware before the end of the year.
Although the jailbreak devices have yet to be updated since the new firmware, Sony's emphasis on staying "Current" with any updates to jailbreak devices could mean the start of a cat and mouse game between Hackers and Sony.
