While "gun-like avatar props" are on the outs, Microsoft is bringing in something new, in the form of Avatar tattoos. Choices include shoulder, forearm, and sleeve tattoos.
For the three of you who both have an Xbox Live connection and don't have Halo: Reach, the digital version, along with its map packs and some accessories are discounted today in the Countdown to 2012 promo.
Microsoft left a pretty big reveal out of their conference this morning. Xbox Live will be introducing cloud storage for game saves and gamer profiles, presumably with the fall dashboard update.
Microsoft put out a short video yesterday that demonstrates how the Kinect sensor processes facial features and translates little things like mouth and eyebrow movements, along with full head movement, to a player's avatar. The little demo seems to demonstrate a high responsiveness and awesome amount of detail, but there's no telling whether or not it was staged, like the avatar portion of Ballmer's CES keynote.
Sorry, I got a little excited. Konami has announced the release date for their newest Contra title (though you wouldn't know that just by looking at it). The game's release will kick off the Xbox Live Arcade House Party promotion, which also features the releases of Beyond Good and Evil HD and Torchlight. Things will be getting started on February 16, when Hard Corps hits digital shelves.
Microsoft announced at its CES keynote last night that Netflix and Hulu Plus will be getting Kinect support as part of the console's annual spring update. They also confirmed that Hulu Plus wouldn't be launching until this Spring, though it had been billed as "early 2011" until now.
Two new workouts for Ubisoft's Kinect-based fitness title are now available on Xbox Live. One is titled New Year, New You, and is billed as "a specific program to get back in shape after Xmas and New Year’s celebrations." The other is Dance Workout: Bollywood, and is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: "a dance take on fitness, matching efficient exercise with Indian-inspired moves and atmosphere."
In Major Nelson's most recent podcast, his end of the year show, he teases a new game to be revealed next week. The reveal will be coming at a press event in New York, and he thinks the game is "really, really good." That said, Major Nelson isn't exactly an unbiased source of opinion.
Microsoft's Countdown to New Year's continues with new deals on the Xbox Live Marketplace today. The main attraction today is Hydro Thunder Hurricane, a great arcade-style racer that released in late July of this year. If you haven't already picked it up, it's basically a must-buy at the discounted price of 400 MSP ($5).
As promised, the first three episodes of Keiji Inafune's short series/film Zombrex Dead Rising Sun are now available on Xbox Live. These episodes are made available for free to all Xbox Live subscribers a week before they go live at www.deadrisingsun.com.
The release schedule has new episodes hitting Xbox Live every week until the final episode releases on August 25. For each release, it will hit first on Xbox Live and then release a week later on the website.
The Fable franchise has become known for having a (mostly) silent hero. While the player character would make some noises during expressions through the first two games, he/she never spoke. But while I was playing the combat demo of Fable III this weekend, I noticed something.
The hero in the demo, a noticeably evil-leaning male character, held a few short conversations with his companion. Most of it was just responses to x question or y event, but the fact that the character spoke at all (which happened only during cutscenes, if I remember correctly) is a new and unexpected turn for the series. Fable II even went so far as to have characters directly mention the hero's silence.
Remedy posted this short teaser trailer to their facebook page with an equally mysterious comment.
Any guesses what this teaser is for? Check back in on Wednesday to find out more:)
Okay, I'll hazard a guess. The teaser is probably for "The Signal," the first piece of Alan Wake DLC that's set to release late next month. Now what do I win if I'm right? Guess I'll just have to wait until Wednesday to find out.
