Vita Sales Continue to Drop in Third Week
As if the massive drop from the first week's sales to the second week's sales weren't enough, the Playstation Vita saw sales drop about 30,000 more in its third week on the market.
While the 3DS continues to have strong sales, selling about 17,800 less than all other hardware combined, the Vita just can't seem to maintain even the less-than-stellar numbers it had in the week leading up to Christmas. The Vita sold just 42,648 units between December 26 and January 1. This is down from 72,479 the week before, which was down from 324,859 in the handheld's debut week.
The new Sony handheld was once again outsold by its predecessor, the PSP. This time, by a little over 20,000 units. As for the Vita's launch lineup, it seems the public has spoken and it's just not interesting enough to generate sales. Console sales continue to drop, and not a single Vita title shows up in the Top 20 best-selling games.
The Vita is set to launch in North America in February, and hopefully Sony can have a better impact on the Western audience. Personally, I think the Vita has more appeal than anything else on the market, but it will be up to the entire community whether or not the handheld finds success.
