Vita Sales Falter in Second Week
After a strong first week, in which the new handheld sold about 325,000 units, sales dropped under 100,000 in its second week on the market.
In week two, the Vita only sold 72,479 units, a drop of 77.6% over last week. While it is to be expected that sales will drop off after release, this is a much sharper drop than anyone would have foreseen. The 3DS sold over 400,000 more units than the Vita, and, adding insult to injury, the PSP actually sold about 30,000 more.
While five of the top ten bestselling titles in Japan this week were 3DS titles, not a single Vita launch title made it onto the list. The lack of interest in launch titles could show that sales of the handheld will stay low until Sony finds that "killer app" that will get units selling.
