Could The Last Guardian Now Be a PSN Release?

Gamestop has been calling customers to announce the cancellation of The Last Guardian. Sony has said to Kotaku that "this is not true." So, what reason, exactly, does GameStop have to be calling and telling consumers that the game has been "cancelled by the vendor?"

What if The Last Guardian is going to be released on PSN? If Sony has found a reason to make the game a digital download instead of a full retail release (which would be almost as surprising as a cancellation, considering how long it's been in development), then it would make sense that GameStop would be letting customers know their reservations are no longer valid. Because, well, they're not. If it's going to be a PSN title, gamers won't be able to buy it straight from the retailer.

Sony hasn't said anything but the above to Kotaku, but we expect more news to come on this soon, since GameStop seems to have jumped the gun on revealing something.
