The Old Republic has Space Combat
Take that, Halo: Reach!
BioWare just recently revealed that Star Wars: The Old Republic will feature interstellar combat. The intention was to reveal this aspect of the gameplay as part of the BioWare Community's
Comic-Con Reveal Mission, in which community members had to strive to get The Old Republic's Facebook page up to 200,000 "likes" and get up to 30,000 followers on the Twitter account. Reaching that goal by today led to the reveal.
They didn't hit those numbers, but the guys at BioWare just went and made the announcement anyway. You can check out the forum thread for it
here.
The announcement was a little limited on details, but they did have this to say:
Space combat is an alternative gameplay experience to the primary game of storytelling, questing, and ground-based combat. In space combat, you fly your personal ship to various “hot spots” on your galaxy map. From there, you will blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars™ space battles.
Apparently, the October issue of PC Gamer has more details. Be on the lookout for it on August 17th, when it's expected to hit newsstands and mailboxes.
