Miss America thinks video games make lazy children

Miss America thinks video games make lazy children
The newly crowned Miss America upon claiming her crown took the opportunity to slam video games. During her acceptance interview after winning the title she said, "Take away the TV, take away the video games, set some standards for our children!"

Granted this is a relatively mild slam, but it is a slam none the less. Apparently former Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron is not a fan of video games, television or the media in general and never has been. She doesn't seem to understand that television and the media (video games included) are what drive her business. If it weren't for the media there would be no need for silly things like Miss America.

Unfortunately the 22 year-old Cameron feels that video games and other entertainment outlets contribute to the laziness of young children. She believes that parents should encourage their kids to play outdoors. She wishes that children were "playing imaginary games with sticks in the street like I did when I was little." She said.

Is she really serious about the above statement? When I was a kid I never played "imaginary games in the street with sticks!" In fact my parents would have taken the strap to my behind if I played with sticks or went anywhere near the street. Children that play with sticks need professional help and fast before they hurt themselves or another child.

You have to be kidding Miss America. You actually want young children to be playing with sticks in the street? I have now lost any respect that I may have had for the institution that is Miss America. This Miss America should have her title stripped because she is an insult to the crown with radical views such as this.

America and the world in general are technologically driven. Children learn valuable lessons from using computers and playing video games. Playing a video game can cause many beneficial things to take place other then simply being a form of entertainment. Some games are used for educational purposes. Simulation games can teach a variety of topics and not take years or decades to do it. Heck, I learned how to fly an airplane after playing flight simulators. I learned many things. I also sharpened my hand eye coordination and reflexes so saying video games cause laziness is absurd. However, parents need to monitor and control their child's use of video games.

The Miss America contest should be discontinued because it plants the notion in our brains that women are simply objects that can be paraded around on a stage in a swimsuit for amusement purposes. This is not a good image for women and personally I do not want to see children brought up to believe something like this. Women are not objects.

Miss America seemed genuinely shocked at her victory as she went on to say, "You can be and become anything that you want to be, even Miss America." To be honest I was as shocked as she was that she won the crown and then said what she said. Go figure...
