"Nintendo no desire in mobile gaming" says Satoru Iwata
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has suggested that the firm has no desire to develop games for mobile platforms, saying that offering Nintendo IP on devices outside of the company's own hardware "would have an adverse impact on the overall value of (the) company".
"We think Nintendo is a company whose value is recognized by the way that we combine great software experiences with particular hardware capabilities that only we can offer," said Iwata speaking at an investor relations Q&A session at last week's E3.
"Therefore, my feeling is that offering our IP on other devices would have an adverse impact on the overall value of our company and at the same time I think that it's not something that would add value to Nintendo."
No iMario for you, then, unless Nintendo suddenly decides to launch a mobile phone of their own.
Of course, there are 'other' ways to obtain Nintendo's back catalogue on your iPhone - not that we'd recommend any of them.
Nintendo's next handheld, Nintendo 3DS, is expected to launch worldwide before April 2011.
