ManHunt 2 UK release imminent?
RockStar's ManHunt 2 has certainly raised eyebrows in the international media. The game was embroiled in controversy right from the start, when attorney
Jack Thompson, famous for blaming all the world's problems on video games, tried to halt the game's production. In the end, Thompson agreed to drop the suit however the game had trouble at the ratings board.
In the States the game was given an Adults Only rating by ESRB. Given that both Nintendo and Sony do not allow AO titles to be released for their consoles, there was no chance of the game being released in it's current state. Over in the UK, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) refused the game outright.
RockStar and parent company TakeTwo decided to go back and censor the game somewhat. The modified version got past the ESRB with an M rating. However, the BBFC still refused to certify the game causing RockStar to appeal to the Video Appeals Committee. RockStar has won the appeal and ManHunt 2 will be allowed released in the UK if the BBFC decides to stand down and take no further action. Fat chance of that happening, but only time will tell.
