Crytek Step Up To Tackle A Homefront Sequel

Having closed down Kaos Studios after their miserable effort with Homefront, THQ have convinced Crytek to work alongside them on a sequel. You know, because it deserved a follow up...

Despite working on Kinect exclusive Ryse and a potential Timesplitters 4 and Crysis 3 in the pipeline (if you listen to rumor), Crytek are officially beginning work on Homefront 2. Lord knows why. Do we not have enough FPS sequels clogging up production lines right now? We are not really in need of this surely? Especially for a game that we rated 6.5 and you lot voted under 5!

As there is no way of stopping it now, we can only hope that Crytek transform Homefront into a better quality shooter than its first entry. At least they have worked with the Korean Army as enemies before in their flagship title, Crysis. It's a start at least.

THQ had the following to say about the sequel:
Homefront’s unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek’s industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we’re supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand.

Crytek boss Cevat Yerli says something along the lines of "leave us to get on with it and we will deliver". Any arguments?

We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ. “We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.

Homefront 2 is due for release in THQ's fiscal year 2014, so it's a long way off for now.
