Hydrophobia Gets A Huge Update!
The XBLA title Hydrophobia is due to get an update called Hydrophobia Pure on December 21st which will apparently improve the game in a very dramatic way - all of those little annoyances may soon disappear! All the improvements contained in the patch are based on detailed community feedback and along with the patch will be a price drop from 1200 to 800 MS points. How is that for a Christmas prezzie!
Pete Jones who is the Joint Creative Director for Dark Energy Digital had this to say:
Thanks to the bespoke procedural technology and data driven architecture of the InfiniteWorlds TM engine, we’ve been able to cram a huge amount into a tiny patch – to be honest we didn’t think it was possible to make as many changes as we have. The camera and control changes alone makes it play so differently; it’s a whole new experience. We have listened to what the community liked and disliked about the game; we know we didn’t get everything right first time around but we have taken this time to refine the experience.
Now this is where I would normally list a comprehensive list of all the updates, but there are so many I think it is best you simply go to the official website here if you want to know them all. Seriously it is almost like an entirely new game!
For those who like things kept brief here is a video explaining the update:
Mostly the improvements are simply to make the game look better, run smoother and feel better when you are controlling it. The guidance system is also being greatly improved as well.
Mark Coates of Microsoft seems really pleased with the developers dedication:
We are really pleased and impressed with Dark Energy’s response to feedback from the Xbox LIVE Arcade community in this title update. This just goes to show that gaming never stands still on Xbox LIVE, and for me this makes Hydrophobia TM one awesome Xbox LIVE Arcade title.
Admittedly there were a number of awkward mechanics in Hydrophobia but this update, if it works as promised, should definitely sort a number of these out. Hats off to Dark Energy Digital I say, you cannot ask for more really...except maybe if they had released the game like this in the first place maybe.
