Guardian of Light: DLC Announced & Postponed Online Co-op
Crystal Dynamics has announced five DLC packs for the upcoming Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light game to be released by the end of the year. A further announcement was also made which may come to a disappointment to Xbox fans. Although the Xbox 360 will have an exclusive release of the game as part of Microsoft's Summer of Arcade on August 18th, the online co-op and global leaderboards will not be made available until the game is released on PC and PS3 on September 28th.
The first three DLC packs announced are to contain further campaign material including new puzzles, combat experiences and new areas to raid. The other two packs will contain extra playable characters for the campaign, presumably from other games the developers have made. Fans of their previous series such as Gex the Gecko and Legacy of Kain will probably be satisfied. The publishers of the game, Square Enix could potentially also use characters from Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, and their take over of Eidos last year could see characters such as Hitman, Deus Ex and Thief being released!
The director of Crystal Dynamics, Karl Stewart, issued the bad news for Xbox players to Gamespot. He stated that the online portion of the game needed further development and would not be released with the download on August 18th for XBLA. The exclusive release of the game as part of Microsoft's Summer of Arcade on August 18th will therefore be missing the online co-op mode and global leaderboards. Instead, an update will be made available on September 28th when the game is released on to PS3 and PC through the Steam digital distribution network. Until then Xbox players can download the game but will only be able to enjoy its campaign by themselves or with a friend on a second controller. Time to ring that friend you haven't spoken to for a while for a month of intense tomb raiding!
