Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

Straight from the good guys at NeoGAF comes information about Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

With Bioware on board as the main developer, I can't help but feel excited. Granted, a turn-by-turn Sonic game is bound to raise a few eyebrows, but Bioware knows how to make RPGs. I'm confident this one will be yet another stellar game from the reputable studio.

  • Cover story with nice artwork
  • In-game graphics have a water color look, all hand drawn
  • Four party members at a time
  • Each character has special skills: Tails, for example, can float over things
  • Eleven party members total: The seven known are Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Rouge, Shadow, Big the Cat
  • Controlling the game is done fully with the stylus
  • You will be able to split your party into teams at certain moments
  • Rings are used as currency
  • No random battles, you can see all enemies on the field
  • Turn-based battles, choose commands for everyone in your party before they actually follow through
  • 'Elite Beat Agents'-style special attacks
  • Team attacks (similar to Chrono Trigger)
  • 'Fatigue Points' instead of MP
  • You can choose which attributes to increase when a character levels up
  • You can purchase and level special attacks
  • Two acts: The first takes place in standard Sonic areas, the second takes place in a darker world
  • Remixed classic tunes
  • Fully animated cut scenes
  • simple dialogue trees
  • Side quests

A bit of the story was also unveiled:

Sonic is on vacation from defeating Eggman 2 years ago. He gets a call from Tails that Knuckles has been kidnapped by a group called the Marauders, and that 6 chaos emeralds are missing. Eggman will not the main villain. Bioware wants to make him a creditable bad guy again. Something was also said about a 'twist' between Eggman and Sonic that goes back to the earlier games.
