Final Fantasy Clocks In at 60 Hours for "First Time"
There's no denying it, games today have gotten short. People recount playing through Modern Warfare in 4-8 hours. And the average game doesn't get much longer than 10 hours. Of course, this is all excluding worthwhile multiplayer and the like. But such was never true of the Final Fantasy franchise. I can fondly remember clocking in nigh 100 hours playing through Final Fantasy VII, at least 50 playing through Final Fantasy X, and though I never finished XII, I recall being around 35 with no end in sight. As the franchise has aged, the games do seem to have gotten shorter, but they are still by no means considered short. And nothing has changed with the thirteenth entry in the series.
In a recent interview with a Japanese gaming mag, director Motomu Toriyama said:
For XIII, the size of the entire game is considerable. Just running through the main story takes experienced players over 50 hours. For the first time, I think it's possible to play through in full in about
60 hours or so.
It's good to hear that Final Fantasy will be living up to its reputation. And, mind you, he seems to just be talking about completing the main story. And as we all know, there's always tens of hours of more to do with side quests and optional bosses and legendary weapons and...
God, I can't wait for this game.
