Origins

The original Destroy All Humans! was released in 2005. You played as an alien, Cryptosporidium -137, who landed on Earth in the 1950’s. This reversal of roles allowed you to actually have fun and attempt to destroy all humans, or at least as many as you could get your hands on. It was a noteworthy game; not just because of its new role for the player, but also for its ability to make fun of the 1950’s and 60’s. Destroy All Humans 2! moved you to the 60’s, expanded your armory, refined the gameplay, and allowed you to play in countries around the world, and even interact with your friends in certain minigames. Now, Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon is further refining and enhancing its winning formula of killing as many humans as possible, by utilizing the additional power of the current generation systems.

The B-movie plot

After landing – in the first game – with the intent of harvesting human’s brainstems in the search for long-lost Furon DNA to revitalize the Furon race. Cryptosporidium -137 was able to harvest enough DNA to regenerate certain “equipment” in his clone Cryptosporidium -138, that would be absolutely necessary for the swinging 60’s during Destroy All Humans! 2. Now it is the 1970’s, and Crypto has opened up his own casino in Vegas that earns him some extra cash, and allows him to harvest a little bit of DNA if he so pleases.

The good times come to an end when someone begins to mess with Crypto’s life, eliminating his cushy lifestyle. While he tries to recover and strike back, he starts hearing a voice telling him to go to Sheng Long, a city with more than a passing resemblance to Hong Kong. There he meets an ancient Furon known as the Master, who offers to teach Crypto to better control his mental abilities, in order to defeat his new foe and restore his life.

A new handheld arsenal

Of course this means new capabilities for the players, both in weapons and mental abilities. The most prominent new mental ability is Crypto’s Temporal Fist. It allows him to temporarily pause time and manipulate the world around him by moving people and objects, using PK, into a variety of situations. (For the uninitiated, PK stands for Psychokinesis, Destroy All Humans’ version of telekinesis) The interesting part of this is that you are able to push objects with PK while using Temporal Fist, and when time starts again, all of the pushed objects will move in their appropriate directions, allowing you to set up situations such as “monk bowling”.

Another new mental ability is Crypto’s PK Magnet, which causes objects that are close to whatever you are manipulating, to be attracted to this cluster of PK’ed objects. This means that you will be able to pick up and throw entire crowds of people, instead of just one person at a time. Lastly, a feature that has been a long time coming, is that Crypto is now able to use his jetpack, PK, and his weapons all at once, opening up new avenues of death and destruction to any nearby humans.

We cannot forget Crypto’s weapons though, as these are absolutely necessary to harvest as many brainstems as possible, and to take revenge on those that decided to be a problem to him. The four classic weapons are back, each more powerful than ever: the Zap-o-Matic, the Disintegrator Ray, the Ion Detonator, and the Anal Probe. The Zap-o-Matic hasn’t changed much, and that is a good thing as there is absolutely nothing wrong with a gun that electrocutes enemies, chains to multiple targets, and has recharging ammunition.

The Disintegrator Ray continues to utterly destroy its targets into itty bitty piles of ashes with remarkable efficiency. It has the potential to upgrade it with a spread, allowing it to take on a shotgun-like form. The Ion Detonator and the Anal Probe have both been revamped. The Anal Probe is able to simultaneously target multiple humans, or target a single human multiple times, with the effect of having tremendous amounts of penetration in very short periods of time.

The Ion Detonator now acts as a sticky bomb, sticking to anything including individual people. They can still be detonated remotely, or left alone to explode on their own after a few seconds. All these abilities can be used together. Returning from Destroy All Humans! 2 is the dislocator, which causes anything it hits to be lifted up and fly in any direction possible.
