Bum Fight Club (cont.)

Now you can also throw your weapons at your opponents. Is your gun out of ammo? It makes a great throwing weapon! Or trip the bum with your empty shotgun, rip a pipe out of the wall and smash his face in when he’s on the ground. Be careful though, bums can throw stuff too. So don’t be too surprised when you’ll get hit with rebar, chairs or even bricks at fatal speeds when you’re in a heated fight. Guns were a bit of a rarity in the previous instalment, but now you get holsters and can actually reload your weapons without having to throw them away once they are empty. Carrying guns through multiple levels is a must seeing as how your foes will be packing heat much more often than before.

Finishing moves were a very nice touch in the first game. The only problem was that there where only four of them. After you did each one a few times they got old and the whole “wow” effect disappeared. Now the team at Monolith has changed the finishing system and instead of picking one of four finishers with the D-pad, the environment is the finisher now. In the old days, you could just snap a guy’s neck or head-but him to death, but now you can drag him over to a book case and throw him into it, slam his head into a TV or bash a guy’s head on a dumpster and dispose of the body by tossing it in.

All this combat sounds great and, indeed, the game will allow you to practice all of this in a game type called “Bum Fight Club”. Originally, it was designed as an arena for the developers to balance out different weapons for the final game, but it turned out to be so much fun that they decided to throw it into the game. It’s like a modern day Colosseum where you keep fighting waves of two bums, one after the other and try to last as long as possible. You are able to use anything you have unlocked in the single player campaign. The longer you last, the higher up you will be on the global leader boards posted online. Full-blown online modes have not yet been shown to be public but they have been announced.

Bum Fights

Condemned 2: Bloodshot is shaping up to be a great successor to it’s predecessor. Listening to the fans was the best thing Monolith did, making changes and tweaks where necessary. Combat and forensics are much better and I’m highly anticipating the details of the online play. If you’re as excited about this game as I am, get ready for some bum fights sometime on 2008.

At a glance
Condemned 2: Bloodshot looks to top everything that the original did. With a grittier feel and much more brutal combat, this is one you don’t want to miss.
