Special characters

In addition to the normal solders you have control over, you will eventually meet up with special characters. Some are part of the storyline and are pretty much expected to team up with you, for at least a short time. There is however a small horde of hidden, secret characters that the player can search out and recruit to fight for his cause. Just to put those fans minds to rest, yes Cloud was a playable character in the original and as long as nothing is changed in that respect, he should still be a very well hidden and playable character in War of Lions. Some of the hidden characters are very unique indeed. Players will also have the opportunity to find some hidden areas in the game as well. Often these areas can make reference back to previous locations throughout Final Fantasy history, such as Matoyas’ Cave (for those who remember that one).

Skills

Combat is turn based where each character on the map is assigned a time segment. When that characters segment comes up, it is his turn. Characters will be able to move and conduct one additional action, usually attack, cast a spell or a support action to help another character. The Job structure is set up in such a way that each character has primary, secondary, reactive and support skills.

The primary skill will reflect the class or Job that character is currently. The secondary skill can be any Job skill set that the character had learned previous to his current Job. The skills learned are actually bought with Job Points, which are awarded throughout combat for successfully completing attacks and so on. Reactive skills are passive abilities that will react to the situation the character finds him in; for example when being the target of an attack or falling to low on health. Support skills are made up of miscellaneous abilities that your character can make use of such as being able to equip a shield when normally not a class ability, being able to change equipment mid-combat, or a passive increase in spell damage. When a character learns all the skill of a given Job, that character becomes a Master of the given Job.

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions will bring an aging classic back from the pages of gaming history and renew the lost history of Square-Enix current world of Ivalice allowing old fans and new comers alike to retrace time and walk along the war torn path of Ivalice in one of its earliest appearances in gaming. Expect to see War of Lions hit US shelves this October.
