Back to Ivalice history

In 1998, the War of the Lions raged throughout a magical land called Ivalice that was newly introduced to US audiences in Sqauresofts release of Final Fantasy Tactics for the original Playstation. Final Fantasy Tactics popularity took off by giving the traditional genre of role playing games and the type of games that had come to be expected from Sqauresoft at the time a new spin . Final Fantasy Tactics combined the theatrical elements of the Final Fantasy series with a tactical 3D rotational playing environment where the player controlled a small detachment of solders as they played a critical role in the development of the history of Ivalice. Now, this October, almost 10 years later, Square-Enix flips back the pages of Ivalice history to retell the tale of the young cadet Ramza Beoluve as Final Fantasy Tactics returns to another Sony platform, the PSP, in Final Fantasy Tactics: War of Lions.

Additions

The essence of Final Fantasy Tactics has been preserved and given a face lift in War of Lions. The unique gameplay system remains intact as you lead your guild of solders through the time of turmoil that is the War of Lions. Character development still finds its root deep with in the lore and history of the Final Fantasy series. War of Lions will have all the classes available to the player as the original as well as perhaps a few additions such as new characters, Jobs (classes), items, newly animated cuts scenes and voice acting for cell shaded movie cut scenes that have also been added. In addition, this PSP version will have 16:9 widescreen support.

Experience levels

War of Lions story is based in a time of Ivalice history when it is just starting to recover from the Fifty Year War against Ordalia. The death of the King is the catalyst that ignites further conflict through out the land over the rightful successor. With two rightful heirs to the throne, each finds themselves at the opposite side of the battlefield with their own supporters.

As you follow the story of the War through Ramzas’ eyes, you will progress through experience levels just as any other traditional RPG. Each character starts as a certain class, or “Job”. These Jobs are about as temporary or as permanent as the player sees fit however. As you gain experience, you will also earn new skills through varies means. Eventually, after attaining enough, or specific skills, you may unlock a new advanced Job for that character. The system offers endless diversity of team and character make up. If you want a White Mage with Monk skills, so be it, any class combination is possible with enough time and effort; each Job offering new advantages and use of strategy.
