Game modes and confusion?

FIFA 08 for the Wii is set to feature all the same game modes as the PS2 version. The game does lack the “be-a-Pro” game mode found in the PS3/360 version, which puts players in the boots of a single player as he trains and improve throughout the length of the season. There have been some rumors that the Wii version of the game is going to also lack the traditional season mode, but this is unconfirmed at this time. If true, it will be a very disappointing and rather surprising omission.

Thankfully, the game is confirmed to include online play including the Interactive Leagues mode. This mode allows players to choose their favorite club from a limited number of leagues. The game will then look at the real-life fixtures and pit supporters of opposing teams up against each other in an online environment. Players have a set time period in which they can compete against supporters of the opposition as many times as they wish, boosting their individual ranking as well as their teams overall ranking.

Party Time!

The Wii version has an exclusive Party Mode featuring three mini-games: Table Soccer, Juggling and Boot It. Table Soccer is a football spin-off, where the Wiimote is used to rotate the players and the analog stick is used to move them along the pole. The Juggling mini-game, limited to the Wiimote, uses a combination of gestures and buttons to keep the ball in the air. The longer the ball is kept elevated, the greater the difficulty. Finally, Boot It has players shooting at goal and various targets to garner points. The Party Mode is offline multiplayer only and makes use of Mii’s (such as a goofy-looking Ronaldinho) as opposed to actual players.

Conclusion

FIFA 08 will mark the debut of the immensely popular soccer series on the Wii and while the game may not be as graphically impressive as the Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 versions, it may yet prove to offer the best experience to gamers worldwide. The Wii version will debut in Australia first, on the 27th of September, shortly followed in Europe on the 28th. The title will debut on the 9th of October in North America.
